if someone whould say Common sense kicks in under 50 feet what does that mean.

It means you should stay home, I guess.

Never heard that saying before because it's usually explicitly stated, but in that context I think I know what it means. Just don't be a noob and full auto someone in the face at 10 feet until your mag is empty.
