TM G17 vs. G18C

Hey all,
I'm planning on buying a sidearm / cqb primary in the very near future. was wondering what everyone thinks of the G17 vs the G18c.

which one would you get and why?

is there a difference (other the the auto ie. if you fired a 18 in semi would it be the exact same as a 17?).

i'm trying to decide between the two. i've been hearing the 18s break if fired auto on propane. have people had this issue firing semi, or with the 17?

is there a quick fix?

bareass February 17th, 2011 10:13

nother question... if i put a g18 in semi, remove the slide and replace it with a slide fro a g17, will it stay in semi? just thinking if thats the case, i'll buy a 18, and if i change my mind i just need to change the slide.... right?

Another consideration would be if you plan on purchasing a carbide kit for it in the future. If that is the case than go with the 18.

If you're that concerned about firing in auto with propane ...... than just don't. I'm sure if you look in the review section of the forums you'll be able to find dozens of them on these 2 particular guns.

Cheers,
FACE

i own a TM g18c and a hi capa
never tried the g17 however.

the g18c in semi fires just like any other gbb in semi mode.
but the full auto is alot of fun.

ive fired with propane on mine without problems but will probably be sticking to air duster (a can lasts forever anyway) just in case.

ive put about 600 rounds thru it so far without any problems at all.

ya i've read reviews... the problem is most people do a review of the gun when its brand new. they are always excited about the gun and its alwas so awesome... i'm loking for people who have put a few thousand round throughthem already.

i'm alao looking for peoples personal preferances and why.

the question about the slide swap is that if i change my mind about the looks, can i run it in semi with a g17 slide on it.

MrBond February 17th, 2011 10:57

Different systems, the G17 slide won't fit unto the G18. If you think the full auto feature might be something you'd want to use from time to time, go with the G18. Either way if you use them on propane, some minor mods are required if you want them to be good solid performers.

bareass February 17th, 2011 10:59

ya i read that about the propane, i'll probably run it on duster until the gun is modified.

is the hop up the same between them?

RacingManiac February 17th, 2011 11:07

Internally from the BBU forward the 2 are more or less than same. The hop-up design is identical and can use the same tight bore and hop-up bucking.

The hammer mechanism and the trigger linkage plus the BBU are unique to each gun though.

G18C will work with G17 slides, your semi-auto is disabled however, allowing you to have a fully auto G17. I did this with my Glock on the GCC.

bareass February 17th, 2011 11:14

ok...

whats a gcc?

oh, and will a g17 outer barrel work on a g18. i don't see why they wouldn't but i'd ask then find out the hard way.

turok_t February 17th, 2011 11:49

Oh, correct me if im wrong RM, but the air nozzle is also different too IIRC.. G18C has that flat part while G17 is circular.

bareass February 17th, 2011 12:25

is the outer interchangeable? or is there a threaded barrel that will work for the 18?

Qlong February 17th, 2011 12:33

Not sure if nozzles are interchangeable, I will test mine out to see for sure unless someone else has already done so, but the bevel in the nozzle prevents BBs from crushing the lower half of the nozzle tip during misfeeds. All of the "enhanced" G17 nozzles have beveled tips.

GCC stands for Glock Carbine Conversion.

HA... that makes sence!:D

have you tried a threaded barrel on you g18?
i plan on putting in a longer barrel when i run the carbine kit.

When I say BBU I include everything thats in it, including the nozzle.

The nozzle is unique to each gun, due to the weight reduction pocket on the slide on the G18C, the nozzle cylinder is no longer round but instead a D-shape.
