russian sphera helmets

Hey I've been thinking about buying a russian or soviet helmet for my troop impression but the main obstacle other than the cost that I've been hearing about are most of these helmets are REALLY heavy. Anyways that lead me to thinking maybe I could make one out of a lighter material, if I go for a sphera it will be covered by the camo cover so nobody will be the wiser and it will still look really cool. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried making one of these, maybe some of the obstacles i might come across or any handy tips to make the job easier. I have a few photos i found on google of what the plates look like but if anyone has more detailed ones I would appreciate it.

Easy way of making the plates would be using plexiglass and heat gun and just mold it over top of original plates.

A light plastic molded would be a good idea to go. Honestly even just the cover itself with some cardboard to keep it's shape would be a lightweight way to go.
I have one as well and it sits on the shelf.
Heres an album for when I first picked it up http://www.dontstealmydomain.com/gal...p?g2_itemId=21

awesome thanks for all the ideas. ya i thought about buying one and molding around it but its a little pricey. would be cool to have a real one though....hey is there any chance you could send me the dimensions of the plates so i have an idea of what size they need to be?

Also other thing to consider is running coms with that helmet. I don't think any headsets that are on market will fit comfortably with the helmet. Think about getting replica maska helmet.

Gish do you have steel maska?

where do you find replica maskas? ill take either helmet really i thought the spheras looked cool and ill still try making one but a maska would be good aswell. I just looked one up on ebay though and it was over a grand.

I can get dimensions for you if you want, might be a bit rough considering they are rounded plates though but I can measure it out for you.

I'm not sure what the current status of stock is on them though they may have sold them all off. Username metal_heart is who I dealt with but he hasn't been active since Aug.
