Stick battery mod
 

I have an extra stick battery (8.4v NiHM1100 mah) made for an AKS-74U but I no longer own the gun. I was wondering if it would be possible to take apart and reconstruct the battery so that it would fit into an M4 handguard. Anybody ever try to do something along these lines? Couldn't find any examples in search...

Yes, just carefully cut the outer heatshink between cell 4 and 5. Then pull on both "sticks" and carefully break the metal tab in the middle.

Solder a short (1") wire between the two tabs you just made.

Done.

Haha I did the opposite, went from M4 handguard style to a AK stick type.


Just make sure when you are soldering the tabs near the batteries, or the battery itself do not heat it for extended periods. Try and do it abit faster.

You can't "do it faster".

You need a soldering iron at least 30W to fix batteries. I use a 60W for theses, be cause it heats fast and let me work really fast (when I have a bunch of batteries to do...)

If you have a vice or something to hold the battery still, use it. It will save you time and fussing by getting them oriented correctly before you make your first joint. Same with the wires, if you have a soldering jig with clips to hold then in place, it will free up your hands to hold the iron and solder.

Dry-fit and pre-tin everything. Just remember to let the battery cool down before you proceed to keep temps to a minimum.
