Filing Mag Release

I am planning on filing my mag release button down on my TM 5.1 because my holster pushes the button, which made me almost lose a mag the other day.

If anyone has done this, which grains and cuts would be best to use?

If I were to paint the release button back to it's original color, what kind of paint should be used?

Also any suggestions on any simpler ways of doing this.

I did it with a buddy of mine, just used a coarse file to get it to the level that worked best, then finer files to smooth it. As far as making it black again, try some gun bluing solution, the release is pot metal so it might take rather well.

Perfect, Thanks bro.

Coarse file will do it quick. If someone you know has a disk sander it'll take about 1sec. Mark a line of where you want it to be before hand...an exacto blade works.

Either aluminum black or cold blue will work...wipe on, let it do it's thing...rinse to stop the salts from acting further. It will wear off with use though...so you might want to hit it with clear lacquer afterwards, or just touch it up again. It'll naturally oxidize a pencil grey.

Or find/swap in a 4.3 mag release...same fit, lower profile. Guys that mod their pistols with shiney stainless parts might have one off a stock gun.

And if you didn't think of it before, REMOVE THE MAG RELEASE FROM THE GUN BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS!

Just in case you weren't going to :p

^^Yea I was planning on it. I think it would be quite awkward leaving it in the handle.
