My Name is______ and I have a problem

So... Since april 2005 I've accumulated 13 AEG and 12 Pistols.. which is all well and good.. you can't have to many guns.. Right?

But my real problem is gear... BDUs, Smocks.. LBV, Chest rigs,

I can't seem to stop I want it all.. I ponied up serious $ just today to help a fella thin out his collection.. on his way out of active AS participation.

I did not need any of it.. but now i have it.. and feel somehow.. sated..

This is getting to be nearly as bad as my Cigar problem....

Thank god I kicked the Scotch problem.. or I'd not be able to afford my new vices.

Anyone else think they have tipped over into pathological territory in the gear buying?

Bissa October 16th, 2009 16:09

if you can afford to have it and your regular life is still fairly normal, you are probably fine.

Forever_kaos October 16th, 2009 16:13

Yeah I've got my eyes set on 7-8 pieces of kits/bits of gear I'd just drool and kill to have. Wallet is saying no no right now.

Why? It just looks nice, I plan to use them all though once here or there though.

I figure, if you're going to use it once and awhile, then sure. Ideally I'd bring an extra vest or set of pouches, never know when something will rip or need something for a specific game.

FOX_111 October 16th, 2009 16:14

It's called GAS, or Gear Aquisition Syndrome.

No mather how people spin it, it's as bad as any Obsecive Compulsive disorder. Wether you have the money to support it or not. It just get more acute if you contract depts or neglect other important sphere of your life to support your compultion.

If you feel it's comming out of control, or you have co-morbidity (for example, another aquisition syndrome in parallele), Seek Professionnal help. (That part is serious advise.)

Lotech October 16th, 2009 16:17

You’re not alone Brian, I can’t help myself either. Every time I see a new piece of gear I can’t help but buy it. The next thing on my list is night vision, like I need that.

Murdoch October 16th, 2009 16:29

It's not exactly gear...

My name is Mark and I have GAS. (That would be GBB Aquisition Syndrome)

At twenty and counting, and of every shape and size, it really does seem like an obsessive compulsive disorder...

btw, is anyone selling?

Scalpel October 16th, 2009 16:36

I'm a pouch whore. I have the same AEG that I started AS with 2 years ago, one GBB, a small selection of green and tan BDUs, but I could fill 2 duffle bags with pouches. help me

Brian McIlmoyle October 16th, 2009 16:46

Ahh finally

I've found a support group...

lets all share ....

I'm not indebting myself to buy gear .. but I have more than a person needs.
but then .. I guess most people don't need it at all.

My wife says she married a 12 year old...

Schlyder October 16th, 2009 16:48

I have the affliction as well, my symptoms seem to be flectarnism, and vestitis.
These are my BDUs and vests I have aquired in the last year.

BDUs - 4 different flectarns, Danish, German, Tibetan, and Danish snow.
- Polish summer Pantera
- Polish Desert Pantera(2sets)
- Ukrainian/Russian TTsKo(2 sets)

vests - Polish Desert Pantera armour carrier
- Polish Summer Pantera Armour carrier
- Wasatch(Tan)
- split-front vest (Black)
- CIRAS mar. (OD)

I do have the sickness. But most of my wants have been satisfied now, except for some accessories and other bits. :D

Janus October 16th, 2009 16:54

I'm up to 16 guns and really only use one consistently.

:(

I use the excuse, "This is how I get friends to come out and try it."

OH.. don't even mention it... my wife is doing CAPS shooting and she wants to get into RS .. I'm doomed... but at least I can buy gear for her now as well

lemegacool October 16th, 2009 17:00

i have 14 guns... and sometimes i ask myself why the hell do i have that much... some never fired this summer... but they are lolexy!!!

edit: i have the same addiction but with guns... like this winter there will probably be zombie games at the smelly indoor field... an therefore making me shopping for a gas shotgun... lol

Bissa October 16th, 2009 17:02

I do not have the funds yet, but I probably have about 20k worth of purchases for airsoft planned out. mainly guns and the gear to use them.

Army Issue has you beat already. If she says that your in his store, the ladies get 10% off purchases that visit at the bookstore around the corner.

I have alot of gear...but I do alot of historical things now :\

FOX_111 October 16th, 2009 17:06

I have my addiction in check. But I do get relapses. Like last month. I went in for some Surefire batteries, and exited the store with 260$ worth of new gear.

I can't be around place like theses with my interac card or credit card. I must only go there with a limited amount of cash in hands. Because I always find something I need at a price too low to ignore. Hahaha.

I can afford it, but I don't NEED it. Well, not yet anyway.

ok.. see now there you go justifying... I need it .. I'm doing "historical work"

don't even get me started... I've resisted getting involved in the WWII aspect of this exactly for that reason..

I have a bad enough trouble with swords and Armour....

Armyissue October 16th, 2009 17:33

Retail Threapy, is not new and not cureable. I run a twelve step program that relieves you of the Guilt associated with GAS. We can custom tailor your treatment to suit your needs. Flexible schedules and payment plans always available . We accept Visa MC AMEX debit cash and EMT. No Paypal. Some trades acceptable, "I'm not just the president, I'm also a client."

HeadlessChicken October 16th, 2009 17:46

I've only been around for a year, I've probably dumped $4k easy into this sport. Do I regret it? No. Am I able to afford to? Sorta, I've sacrificed other priorities but nothing that couldn't wait or was urgent. Can I afford to continue like this? Hell no but I know that, I realize that and now that I'm a bit more educated, I've set goals and budgets. My problem is in check.

Mudder October 16th, 2009 18:10

I used to feel the same way over Star Trek and sci-fi collectibles, though I broke myself of the habit ages ago. Had to have everything at one time but quit easily when most props were going for 150US or more for what is basically a lump of resin.

Now, when talking about the Bradley Nelson Phaser from the late '70s and early '80s...that's different....I couldn't afford them when he first made them and they are literally a work of art. Perfectly balanced, they could sit on the end of their grips without tipping over. I tried to duplicate his circuit on my own, he somehow got xenon strobe light bulbs to run at variable speeds off of six volts[four AA in the grip]. Whereas I only could from an AC source or just a single rate flash from a dry cell source, he had not only a step-up and inverter in his circuit but something to generate the pulses.

AFAIK, he doesn't make them anymore and on the trader market they can go for 4-5 times their original value.

Now I just settle for calendars and the occasional what they call "blueprints" ..actually sets of drawings of ships/props.

I have 7 different types of vests/chest rigs with enough pouches to cover them all twice. 1 of the plate carriers still has the tag on it. I acknowledge that I have an issue.

G36s....oh why? oh why?

G36's?

I have 9 fully functional and working G36's plus a suitcase full of mags.. last count 24 midcaps, 22 lowcaps, 8 highcaps :)

At least two on deck...(as far as I remeber...not counting G36 parts in boxes etc.)

All have thier own purpose :)

Some are short, some are long, some are fat, and some are thin.

Plus various other AEG's

- TM Sig552, 2xCAS armalites, a TM MP5 A4, Kraken AK shell loaded with goodies (tightbore, high torque gears... blah blah blah ....390 to 395 fps and accurate) and a pistol...oh yeah a bolt action (needs work...new project) ...oh yeah and a silly little TSD MP7 ? All I know it is clear :)

so I guess I like AEG's.

I also used to have that problem, with anything really. Pretty much a pack rat, keep everything, don't give/sell much. But I managed to change that.

I'm currently following the 30 day system.

If there's something you want, you put it on a list, and you put the date next to it.
You're only allowed to buy it after its been on your list after 30 days.
If at any point you realize that you don't want it anymore, you cross it off your list. If you ever get the need to get it again, you put it on the list, starting fresh.

This has helped lots with my spending and collecting. I've also gotten to the point that I don't want to keep anything that isn't being used.

mcguyver October 16th, 2009 19:01

Hey Brian, I think I know where you're coming from. At it's peak, I had 6 rigs/vests (all real gear, no clones), 13 sets of BDUs (only 2 clones), with many of it being real Crye or issue. I think in gear alone I was probably sitting about $4-5K.

Once you start, you can't stop.

At least it isn't an online-porn addictionb sucking your credit card dry every month.

MADDOG October 16th, 2009 20:59

:)

9 Different rigs (Coyote and OD)
4 different assault packs
8 sets of Bdu's all personally modified RAID
10 AEG's (5 M4 Variants, 5 AK variants)
6 sets of boots

My garage is definitely full, I ran out of space in the basement with the Baby coming!

I guess I belong in this thread. I've only been around/active for about a year and a half but have bought 3 AEG's (two of which I completely rebuilt so I could almost have 5 complete working AEG's) 4 pistols, a molle plate carrier with pouches, 10 x 40mm nades (sold/traded 5 and sold the AGX launcher), m500 6mm shotty, RDS's, 2 sets of BDU's, 3 sets of goggles, Ao2 mask, a plethora of AEG/GBB mags.......

I blame a few people for my addiction. Jugglez and Army Issue are the top two!

Eeyore October 17th, 2009 00:43

My name is Tom and I too have a problem. I joined ASC last January. I've already bought over $5000 worth of guns, gear and equipment this year, and I've only gotten out to one game so far. The worse thing is that the first 5K just wetted my appitite for more.

since i have started playing i have had over 80 AEGs and over 50 pistols
gear last time i checked i had spent over 55000 over the years.

i kicked the habit, but am relapsing

AngelusNex October 17th, 2009 08:41

I though I had a problem, 3 years, 4 guns and enough gear for 2 people..... Apparently I don't have enough of a problem to even think i was starting to have a problem.

This was just my real Crye Multi-Cam and products made from it. I had about this much again in clone stuff, all at the same time.

I also had MARPAT and ARPAT stuff, as well as contractor-type loadouts.

Kingsix October 17th, 2009 23:10

This creeps me out to this day didn't creep me out when I was younger. When I was 4-5 years old I had a dream I was in some kind of war and all the guns shot white ball like ammunition. This dream was reoccurring and I didn't understand what it was about until this day. I have no ideal how it could have happened as I had no Internet or Cable TV at the time. It hasn't bugged me until I started to airsoft. I don't know if I saw into the future or it is Destiny but it creeps me out still.

NV is an excellent thing to get, that you need for sure.
GPS/compass
Radio.
Clothing for all year round Example = 4 seasons & in between weather.
Primary & Secondary weapon RS & AS
Rucksack + Patrol pack of some sort.
Sleeping Kit with all survival utensils.
Boots for different seasons.
Etc Etc...

If I had followed something like that in the beginning, I wouldn't have amassed so much etc gear & guns!

But I do have all my basics now covered, just moving onto the more high priced ticketed items now.

I couldn't even make a list of the amount of gear & guns/AMMO I have now, I find stuff i forgot about from years ago, and the worst thing is, it is all organized!

I find myself trolling through the classifieds looking for deals. Right now I am broke like I've never been broke before. I already have more gear and other stuff than I need. We won't get into the real stuff I own, or the hunting stuff either. I actually cleaned a couple weeks ago and added up what I spent since 2002 and I am stunned at how much of my mortgage could have been done by now. I am the consumer I've always loathed.

My airsoft closet has become so packed I can't open the door all the way, and have no where to step on the floor. So to be honest, I don't even know what the hell is in there anymore. You can see my history in airsoft as you peel away the layers of gear on the floor.

2) I wasn't suggesting that pics should be posted a proof, just for some eye candy
3) On reflection I guess there are plenty of gear pics threads already.
