Duplicating Enhanced Grip Pads for PMAGS
I'm looking for a source of the grip sheets/panels/strips like http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=sho...product_id=792
When I was in IT, I used something I'm sure was the same thing, as bumpers/grip feet, and so feel that Rainier's arms is way out to lunch with pricing. I swear I'm having a blond moment, because I can't remember where I could get large sheets. I have a friend that can have custom 'cutting' stamps made, so I can get the exact cuts I need, I just need a source of the pad. Thanks in advance |
Maybe try a hardware place like crappy tire, rona, lowes, home depot. looks like that sticky traction rubber matting
|
Lol geeze Pmags have enough grip on 'em already!
You could try some Skateboard shops, they might have coarse grip-tape that would work. |
Why put rubber on your mags? Kinda retarded. Rubber grips on fabric... It'd make your mags harder to pull out.... So your highspeed setup is now lowspeed. :)
|
It's because operators operate operations.
Ps. Operator operator operator. |
No it's becasue they found out too many people have $20 in their wallets.

LOOK! THEY SLIDE OUT OF YOUR RIG SO... *tug*... uhmm... SO...*tug*.... Damnit. EVER LOSE A MAG ON THE FIELD? ...WELL, NOW YOU CAN LOSE A 120$ MAG! |
I suppose you could cover your entire magazine with it, but most people that I see run them, the grip tape, only cover the portions where their fingers would be placed when indexing for magazines during a speed reload from kydex setup, competition rigs, but then again thats what I've seen.
These same individuals tend to index their magazines a certain way, those that have their magazines positioned with rounds, bullet tips, facing the center-line of their body. Basically indexing a rifle mag the same way they would do it for a pistol mag, leading to better efficiency and consistency. However, if you prefer the "beer-can-grip", indexing magazines that are stored with rounds facing away from the center line, then you get a slightly more postive grip than indexing the rifle magazine like a pistol mag. Different strokes for different folks, I personally don't see a great advantage to it myself, but I haven't gotten to the level of split times during reloading to notice any significant difference between using grip tape on mags and not. |
It's a waste, you're better off with gloves, or to get a better grip on mags! lol
|
LOL this thread is hilarious....
Anyhooooo i agree with Mr. Hitman just grab those mags a little harder! |
Hmmm... wiseasses abound. I would have prefered, been there, done that, didn't work, instead of just assuming it doesn't have a function. yes, Rainier is basically infomercialling this, and how much of it is a gucci gear factor... but it's also for me to see if it actually has some use.
I'm asking for help on how to try it, so then I can be the been there, done that, didn't work guy. I would prefer to try them out myself with $5 invested rather than an agency purchase of thousands of dollars. I'm willing to use some of my money to possibly prevent a future bad purchase decision. I'm actually hoping the grip foam will help with the extraction of the magazine from the gun when reloading. PMAGs are great, I love them, but get some rain on them and they're a bit slick. Skateboard grip tape does not work properly when pulling from the pouch, when you're using military pouches instead of IPSC. You end up shredding your nylon over time and just gets annoying, because of the grit/sand embedded in it. So, any other suggestions of where to buy? |
I'm sure if you sift the 3M product listings you'll be able to find this in its base form but the ones they have are most likely die-cut so you'll either be making your own cookie cutter deal, or trimming them with scissors.
Maybe if you got lucky you could find a pre-cut no slip sheet, like a bathtub grip ("Help I've fallen and can't get up,,,,,,,,,,too soon?) and get a pre-cut round dot that'd fit in the squares. |

If I were you, I'd consider other methods of increasing the security of grip... Maybe someone who's done some HR PSD can offer some more insightful tips? .... |
Have any of you experts ever tried to handle a polymer mag when both it and your gloves are covered in mud, filth and slime? You know, battlefield conditions?
Didn't think so. It's a great idea, and the material you're looking for is available at Princess Auto. |
I've got no issues with putting grippy stuff on mags, I just got a big bag of Magpuls today (back in stock at Dave Surplus), but at $3.5 a mag for moulded rubber vs.$18.99 per some rubber sticky pads I think the guys selling the pads are maybe a bit off the scale. I just read the whole instructions, they aren't even molded, you've got to heat gun them and shape them on!
|
That product in itself may be overpriced and stupid, but the idea isn't. Princess Auto sells grip tape. That's all that stuff is.

Waiting for the next thread 'grip tape put to high on mag, mag won't fit, what to do?'

@OP, not sure what the product is that Morb suggested from Princess, nor how much it costs, but for comparison you could check a gun shop for Pachmayr Pac-Skin which is available in a big 6"x18" ish sheet (roughly, from memory: YMMV) for about $12-15 as I recall. |
Thanks.
Couldn't find the product at princess auto, did find the pacymyr stuff. I can see why the pac stuff is used on stocks, it is really nice, but I don't know if it'll work for stripping out a mag when wet. Will be cutting it up during the week and seeing how it works. |
did you get the big sheet ? or the already cut ones ? im try to find the uncut sheets in calgary here but cant seem to find any.
|
Necro, but I'm the OP so I'm feeling completely justified, especially with the original wiseass content of this thread.
So, I was looking for the Rainier Arms EMG's They have been knocked off now, but still are costing $6.50-$8 per set. The airsoft websites originally advertised 3m Safety-walk 310 series. They're now talking about a 'mineral embedded' tape also, which would be a 610 series. Here's the 310 series tape Here's the 610 series tape Does anyone have a link to get the 310 series in Canada for a good price? Realistically I don't need four rolls of the stuff. Thanks |
Have you checked out ebaybanned...
http://www.ebairsoft.com/pmag-enhanc...ip-p-2336.html $8USD and free shipping |

Nope, no precut sheet actually is the correct size. However, scrapbookers have the ability to get cutters made of all sorts of weird shapes; my friend is going to get me one made. However, Damn, this is a pain in the ass re-creating something. |
