Biodegradable BB's

Are biodegradeable bb's generally good quality? I have an offer from a guy I know for $7.50 for 1000 .20 bb's. Am I wasting my money?

coach February 6th, 2009 23:09

you're wasting money. they tend to break on impact and turn to dust causing your opponent to breath in the dust. it can also get into their eyes especially if they are wearing the mesh style masks.

Drake February 6th, 2009 23:22

It's been showed they don't biodegrade that fast anyway, and as mentioned above can be dangerous. Most people here are using BB Bastards with good results. They're usually around $10 for 2000.

If you're concerned about polluting, switch to locaps/realcaps and learn trigger control.

chaosnemesis February 7th, 2009 05:41

Most aren't polished so they tend to chew through your hopup rubber faster. The only "good" bio bbs are the bioval ones, but they are quite expensive (about 50$ for /3700) they biodegrade in a couple of months and are highly polished. Also they do not dissintegrate on impact. In fact I've shot a metal bell at 20ft with these and they've left dents but remained intact. Every other bb including bbbastards split in half or fragmented off.

Bio "BB's gum up your barrel = bad !

CDN_Stalker February 7th, 2009 09:53

And are hard to find as well as degrade faster once exposed to oxygen. So you open the container up to try a few, then wait a few weeks to use them, might find they are causing issues within your gun. I've heard of this, I've never wasted my time trying bio BBs anyways, normal ones degrade as it is, just over a few or more years. So there is no chance that archeogists in 1000 years are going to find fossilized BBs and think they are some sort of ancient eggs. :D

Eeyore February 7th, 2009 14:27

So if you guys don't recommend biodegradeable BB's what do you recommend? And can someone give me the low down on what weight BB's are right for what.

Brit ter February 7th, 2009 14:29

"BB" basterd ,He,s your man I use 20gr & 23gr.

Eeyore February 7th, 2009 14:33

So where can I purchase said BB Bastard BB's?

Brit ter February 7th, 2009 14:42

Get age verified and buy them here!

Eeyore February 7th, 2009 14:49

Sure but I plan to get verified at an event and Im not going to one untill I have gear. Do i really need to be verified to buy BB's?

Deaf_shooter February 7th, 2009 15:01

I don't see why person must be age verified for bb, all u know they could use it for science project. BB has well statement of weight and size to make it good balls for Physics project like calculate how far ball go when drop on ramp.

The Saint February 7th, 2009 15:06

You don't need to be AV'd to buy BBs, just like you don't need to be AV'd to use Google. ;)

I'll make sure to not drop any BBs ever, just so this won't occur. :D

Read my original reply to you.

There's usually someone selling BB Bastards at games in the Montreal area. Just ask on the game thread.

You know, now I just feel like building a small nest out of twigs and pocket lint and putting an assortment of 6 and 8mm BBs (maybe include some tracers for extra WTF factor) and leaving it out in park come spring for people to find.

Just to fuck with their heads. :P

Hmmmm, and put a little "Welcome to Scarecrow's Nest" sign in front of it.

On the contrary to what most people have said, i have been using bio BB's for many years now without problems. I have personally used Excel .25's and the new G&G .25's. Don't expect these bb's to degrade after a couple weeks... it will still take quite a while (still finding bb's outside from several months back) for them to completely degrade. But remember that non biodegradable plastic is oil based and will take tens, if not hundreds of years to completely degrade.

As long as you choose the right brand of biodegradable BB's (mentioned above) they will work just as well a non bio BB with the added bonus of bio environmentally friendlier.

Nick_273 February 7th, 2009 20:59

i doubt that since one million bbs is 250 kg's of plastic that you are dumping into the woods (or wherever you play). You wouldn't throw 100's of plastic bags into the forest would you? A 1kg bag of bbs is a lot of plastic bags.

CDN_Stalker February 7th, 2009 23:35

Degrade by what I meant over a couple or few weeks means to become a bit stale, increasing the chances of breaking into shards and powder (as there have been cases in recent years, largely the bio BBs sold at Walmart that come in sealed packs that are apparentely quite good) and is why bio BBs are largely banned from use at fields due to safety issues.

pusangani February 7th, 2009 23:39

as someone who wears a mesh mask, I cannot stand these things, I don't fuck around with my eyes, not trying to be Captain Planet over here.

Even had part in an incident where a bio BB turned to dust on the edge of a player's goggles, shard stung his nose and the dust went inside the lens and irritated his eyes. From there on that field has banned use of bio BBs.

Stalker says: Trees are for cover, not for hugging. :D

shinobii April 5th, 2009 19:03

YES. Time wasted.

Biodegradeable bb's from non reputable manufacturers is a definite no go!!
If you could be so fortunate, try to get your hands on Bioval bbb.

They are the last bb you every purchase. The most environmentally friendly bb available in terms of materials used to make it, and the process in which they are made. (no carbon foot print)
Hard as heck, and will degrade after about a year. So premature biodegrading, and all that other bull about the moisture and shelf life being reduced after opening the package is a non -issue.
Performance is unmatched. Japan is 95% biodegradeable bb's and they are serious about performance. If you want quality though you will have to pay, as no other company pumps as much R&D in their product as bioval, and as such, the cost reflects it. It's also why they are impossible to find in Canada.

my $ 0.02

:D

I'm sure once people get over the stereotype of the cheap, crappy bio bb's that come from Wallmart, there will be many fields and players interested in using true biodegradable bb's.

If only there was a retailer who would import some decent bio bb's..
