Found a source for Goggle fan ebay USPS

ok here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Micro-Fan-Stealt...742.m153.l1262

US $8.75
specs look pretty good to me especaillly the 15.6 dba level
Specifications:
Size: 25mm square x 10mm thick
Voltage: 12 volts DC
Current: 70mA
Airflow: 1.6 CFM
Weigh: 6.5 grams (.22oz)
RPM: 8000
Noise: 15.6 dB-A

best part is shipping is so low US $2.50 and because it is under $20-25 I doubt I'll get dinged by Customs.

I've been checking out the fan controller by donP (trigger master seller)
http://unconventional-airsoft.com/20...ry-fan-switch/

"The 2200uF capacitor works for my setup and keeps the transistor turned on (and the fan running) for about 10 seconds after I let go of the button. Test with different values to get something you like."

I think I want to experiment with a larger capacitor to make it stay on for 30sec. Anyhow I thought I would share.

I read a few reviews of the already made fan kits but most wont fit my Event goggle and I heard they are loud ~over 20-25dba. the 2.5 cm fan fits exactly on the top of my Event airvent.

Check in R/C.

We have fans like that for ages.

I you want something even smaller, check these ones out:

ummm the first one is the same size as the one i posted 25mm square and cost more and shiping is lol Estimated Shipping & Handling International
USD$ 18.90, the second one is larger and wont fit 30 mm.

btw the smallest i found is this http://www.alibaba.com/product-free/...an_Stocks.html
but thats too crazy small and also too loud.

Easier way would just be to add a larger resistor, increases the time constant with a smaller component.

I think I get it, so instead of that 1k I'd hypothetically ( Will have to test a few resisitors) use a 2k or 3k in the diagram pic. But that would make the fan speed slower no?
Good idea though I'll experiment with a few of the extra caps and resistors I have.

Kos-Mos June 8th, 2008 18:15

No because it is not the same circuit as the fan. It is only driving the transistor.

As for increasing, I am not sure if the transistor will still switch with a highger value. We just don't want to to enter triphase.

*edit*

forgot to say on the last post that these fans are made to run at only 5v, so you can drive them off a lithium battery (CR123A or any photo battery)

thanks kos-Mos. Yeah I was debating between 5v and 12v(using 9v rechargable battery). Was having a hard time finding a 5v low dba fan for cheap.

I did like the Shicoh ICFAN 25105 25x25x10mm 2510-5 5v http://www.alancomputech.com/2510-5.html

but I was thinking 5v might just be a bit too weak (Did not find Dba specs either). But anyhow if you have connections to laptop fans for very cheap this would be a good option, and can add two fans if cooling was not enough.
Also I have a 9v batter recharger but not one for CR123A, so that was another factor I had to consider.

edit found specs for the 2510 in 5v and 12 v but the Dba is kind of high for almost identical CFM http://www.keyelectronic.com/2510.htm
the stealth fan looks like a winner.

Now I will compare the two 12v fans:

Stealth Fan from OP
Airflow: 1.6 CFM---0.045 CMM
Weigh: 6.5 grams (.22oz)
RPM: 8000
Noise: 15.6 dB-A

2510 fan 12v
Airflow: 1.766 CFM ---0.05 CMM
RPM: ???
Noise: 25 Dba

2510 fan 5v is 20 dba for 0.05 CMM

an even better deal is found in this link.

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...highlight=fanz

advantages are that they are in country, low priced, whisper quiet operation and work better than any other anti fog gadget available on the market today. i have seen them in action on fields here in my area.

I have sevral of these kits and I SWEAR by them. Some of the best money i spent in airsoft in a long time.

Naglfar June 8th, 2008 19:48

Sorry, I didn't read the link...if you put a resistor in series with the cap to ground then it will increase the shutoff time length. Or just buy a larger cap, I was thinking if you already had a cap in mind to use.

Syn June 8th, 2008 20:01

Thanks six4. (and Naglfar toofor resistor idea). That fanz is 18 USD +7 shipping. No specs about fan listed. The fan kit they sell does nothing special, just on/off switch.

I just need a good fan so I can mod some electonics to it. Can't justify 25USD for a single fanz when I can get a good fan for $8.75+$2.5~$11. With the money I save can buy any extra fancy parts but I already have a bunch of small caps, resistors, wire, and shrinkhose. So really don't need anything else except possibly thr 39cent 9v battery clip or possible a smaller pushbutton switch than I have.

I think the fanz is good if you have no soldering experience and want a ready to go kit or and don't like to mod things, fiddle, and learn, but I do. Thats what makes it fun.

active surplus. (TORONTO)

www.activesurplus.com

They'll have it someone where junk pile. Cost like 3 bucks. Once you go to active surplus you will never buy any electronic part without checking if they have it first.

Yeah I was going to head over there, but I have no guareentee its one of those quiet fans or the size. So the time spent to go there + bus fare $5+ fan $3=$8 minimum, I just ordered it for $11.25 shipped to my door.

m102404 June 11th, 2008 09:05

Two weeks ago they (Active Surplus) had half a cardboard box of them...$2.95/each...I think (I tend to loose my mind in that place).

I'm heading over either tomorrow or Friday to grab some more.

Just a note to anyone buying them. Give the wires a good (but not Hulk-ish) tug before you buy them...the last two I bought had the wires separate from the fan.

Syn June 11th, 2008 09:33

Related question: I downloaded crocodile electronics software to test different parts and the rpm result of the fan.

Problem is they don't have a quad two transistors (strange it is a very common transistor!) as parts in the software, but the have everything else. The software tells you in real time what is happening at the motor end Rpm when you change different parts eg resistors, capacitors.

Anyone suggest a more advanced software for electronic circuit design that shows graphs and results for parts when the circuit is completed?

I'm not looking for drawing software, but design (with results) software. eg this is croc electronics (yenka) http://www.yenka.com/Yenka/Yenka_Pro...a_Electronics/

thanks!

edit Best so far after downloading 5 different programs seems to be TINA.
But if anyone has suggestions of better software, please post.

Syn...I'm sure that what you're doing is really cool...but I don't understand any of it.:D

I just hook 2 fans up in parallel and connect it to a 9v battery, with an ON/OFF switch interrupting one of the power lines.

A new battery lasts about all day (i.e. I've never drained a new battery at a game, even when it's been on for most of it) and even with 2 fans (the ones from Active Surplus) they're really quiet. Just loud enough to know that it's on, but not distracting or audible to anyone else.

I've seen Don's momentary switch setup...is that what you're doing?

I just like modding stuff I guess. But its good to hear Active has quiet fans. What size are they? THe 25mm square?

Yes DonP is the man! His link is in the first post. It's not rocket science, by any means , but these little electronics project sure are fun. I also got the 3 round burst from DonP and it is great and useful. I hate full using auto with a 50round mag. If you program it, it can even do double taps with one trigger pull.

m102404 June 11th, 2008 12:06

Yup, 25mm square...can't recall the thickness

The 3rnd burst is awesome! Everyone that I've installed one for loves it. 10 pulls and you're done your real cap...easy to keep track of.

I told you they're fun. ;)

I travel to this shop about once a month. It is a cornucopia of stuff for ASers.

SHÖCK June 26th, 2008 21:35

What hapens if I mount a computer fan controller to a fan that I have. I know it works via variable resistor but does this just heat up or drain the 9V instead of turning it off?

Good point. I am the seller of the FANZ and the idea was to make a simple kit to install and remove on most masks. No messy wires with cheap 9V connectors or on/off...Our kit is as you mentioned made for players wanting to keep it simple.
