Buying a SCAR
I have this big dilemma between buying a CA or a VFC SCAR.
I wonder if any SCAR users could kindly provide some inputs to which one you would recommend. I personally think that their performance are relatively the same probably, but what about the exterior build? For upgrade wise, do VFC guns have better internals than CA guns? After hearing your advices, I will make my purchase soon, probably this week. Welcome myself joining the SCAR club...HA. Thank you very much for your advices. I would really highly appreciate them. |
I'd vote VFC but also suggest you sign up on the Arnies Airsoft forums as there is more talk about this there. I think there are maybe 4-5 VFC SCARs here and I haven't seen talk about a CA one in my searches.
|
This is true that I haven't found any good review on CA SCAR either. However, I will keep trying and if any SCAR users can kindly provide any insight, it would be really helpful.
I agree with you that VFC is probably better. I think that I will need to search much further to find more consistent opinions on both guns. |
Lots of CA SCARs on Arnies, plus Star and others.
|
But I heard the vfc scar has plastic internals.... Yikes
|
VFC plastic internals... >.> isn't VFC supposed to be one of those G&P level companies??

VFC uses metal, AFAIK. I don't think they'd make a proprietary mechy for any of their guns.. |
VFC has a "plastic" hopup. You guys have "plastic" lenses in your goggles that don't run away and hide when a projectile sniffs around them.
The clear chamber lets you check the setting of the hop and verify it hasn't moved. People who know a lot more than me have commented the chamber isn't an issue but for some it could be weird and scary. |
vfc all the way!

I have a VFC FNH Mk16 Mod0 SCAR Light Generation III.
It is an amazing AEG. This thing comes in a hard plastic case with a CQC and STD barrel. You can field strip it just like the real one. There are no visible wires when you fold the stock and it takes no tool to place the battery in the stock. The mechbox is made of metal. It has a poly piston with ported piston head and 7mm bushings. It also comes with full trademarks, 95% color matching and a torx screw driver with a hopup adjustment tool. The lower receiver is made of glass filled polymer. It feels soft yet very very solid. The upper receiver is CNCed anodized aluminium. It also has a bolt-catch function. The crush washer also has a rubber washer so your flash hider sits perfectly tight. I was undecided between this one and a CA but the CA is something like 300$ less, has no bolt-catch, not matching colors, no torx screw, no full trademarks, no 7mm bushings, no poly piston and ported head, no CQC barrel, no plastic hard case, visible wires in the stock and it takes a tool to insert the battery. I bought the VFC and would never get the CA. Here's my thread about it: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=51540 |

Ahh, it might have been the STAR version that I was thinking of. My mistake, I retract my whole 'plastic internals' comment.
|
The biggest risk I'd pin on buying a VFC, and most likely the others is spare parts availability. I'm on the hunt for another hopup chamber so if I want to swap in the short barrel (not on the field though) it's not a total swearing session. It's like having an Italian motorcycle or J-Spec car, you're not finding parts at the corner 7-11.
|
Just swapped mine after the last game when I got home. It's not that much of a hassle afterall. I didn't break anything and it still shoots just fine.

Anyway... the VFC scar is a chairsofter gun... Bling Bling :D |

I would love an extra whole thing so you just unscrew those 6 screws, switch and play.
Shakal, it's not a chairsofter AEG; I gamed it and will be gaming it next Wednesday. It's an amazing AEG. You're just jaleous :p but thanks for letting me know about the quick fix; I didn't know that. |
I put a rat tail on my battery made out of gun tape so I can grab it an draw it out without yanking wires.
|
I have made my decision based on various reviews (they are still not very consistent, but better than what I have learned earlier), and the most precious and valuable field experience from Cassius. I have just purchased the VFC SCAR.
From now on, I will be heavily dependent on Cassius, Danke, and several other SCAR users for their valuable experience, opinions and suggestions on this gun. Thank you again, Cassius and Danke, for your great inputs and assistance. I can hardly believe that I have now officially joined SCAR group. |

VFC are great guns. The CA just got out first , also have cnc upper, fiber lower and butt plus i got a good deal for mine. 800$ brand new with 3 hicap + one 1100 mah battery. Only thing i had to change after a season of playing is the cylinder head and the tappet plate (wich was a preventive move) The only thing i might be jealous of, is the 2 barrel you got with your VFC. |
AArrgh did you just buy a black scar that I was thinking of purchasing from A&A? Dam you if you did!! He He Congratulations on your purchase.

I'm sorry about that, buddy, but there are CA ones still available, so get them before someone else does!!! |
Congrats and welcome to the club :D
I love my SCAR and wouldn't trade it for a PTW :D |
Thank you. I am very honored to join the SCAR club now.
Of course, after I saw your SCAR and heard about its performance, I wouldn't trade my SCAR for a PTW either!!! I might still acquire an armalite PTW in the very long distant future, but I'm sure that I'll never ever give up my SCAR for a PTW. |
are you able to upgrade the internals of the star scar? ive been eyeing out the one with the eglm. does the vfc version have a metal receiver?
|
VFC version comes with metal upper and polymer lower just like the real thing.
I don't know about the Star Shakal; do you have a pic of your painted SCAR? Does the CA field strip like the VFC, not that it's important, I'm just curious. :) |
does vfc make a scar-h? im thinking a scar-h with eglm = jizz in the pants haha
|
HA...I don't know the answer to your question, pOKiE.
Gentlemen, any ideas to help pOKiE out? |
There are pictures of the VFC SCAR-H and VFC EGLM floating around the net.
Old codger moment, the SCAR-L feels like a toy to me vs. the 50s/60s stye 7.62mm battle rifles. even though all the FN bumph swears the gas system reaches the places others don't I find myself twitching at the idea of that cartridge mixed with a rifle that hits the scale at the same value as a cell phone. Here's the link by the way http://www.gb-tech.com.tw/vfc_new_we...news/frame.htm |
didnt get to see the eglm but that scar-h is pretttttty sexy. AND looks like VFC is going to make the knights armament pdw...might have to pick one of those up too!
|
jtjcheng....... can you tell me about the JG M4 S-System?
|
I have both the VFC ,in black ,and the STAR in tan with the eglm. They both have their pros' & cons'. The VFC is a better gun overall but the STAR has a better stock design (internally) The STAR is alot heavier. I thought the extra weight was all in the eglm but that was not the case. It's a good 3-5lb heavier! The nice thing with the STAR is that you can change barrels in 2 seconds. The whole barrell comes out with the hop-up rubber, but the hop-up stays behind. The mechbox is almost identical to a V2 with minor changes. The hop-up is attached to the front of it, and it looks like you can remove the spring without taking the whole thing apart. I love them both but I prefer the VFC. Its' not as front heavy and just seems to be put together better.

Scar owner, CA, absolutely love it! Was a tan scar now custom painted, insane rate of fire even with an 8.4v pack.
|
Tried both in my hands in a shop in the US, definitely went for the VFC, better feeling, rugged, case included, looks sooo nice!
|
I bought a G&G SCAR-L from Mopic and it's an excellent gun. Solid and reliable.
