AI Prototype Oil Pump

Since AI had the compact refilling device Gascan in the airsoft market. I've found that it was so convenience to have the propane gas mixed with oil in a compact size to keep in pocket. Then something came up from my mine was, if I also could have a full size propane tank mixed with oil, for my regular game day high volumn plactical shooting use , would it be great? Thanks AI, you made it again. The new prototype Oil Pump. What's a genius design. I tried it and pump the bb oil in to the tank, shake it and ready to charge mag. Doesn't have to remember when to open the adaptor to drop oil. Since it is the prototype, if the pump could slightly make longer than the oil bottle for easy reach to bottom, limit the pump travel distance for the right amount oil fill, use the extra length to make a handle for easier grip by two fingers, also has a housing cover the plunger stem after use preventing dirt and dust contamination. That would be even better.

Pics?

I fill my 1lb tanks with silicone oil with a home made thing. I first built it to see how well silicone lube (and others) mixed with the liquid propane. It has 2x ~1" sight glasses so I can see in it.

It was interesting watching the LPG boil out of dyed red hydraulic oil.

I still do question now though does the silicone oil weight matter really once it is in the bottle. It gets blended & thins out.

And I also do want to try blending in some strongly concentrated wintergreen oil to see if I can cut/mask the mercaptian smell. DIY green gas lol

If that could be done with MAPP/Pro, I'd buy one...

(I dunno what's used in MAPP/Pro but the stench makes me want to murder baby pandas)

Much much more compact than mine. I gotta post a pic of my steel, brass & glass monstrosity.

Brian McIlmoyle July 28th, 2013 20:26

Been using a prototype unit for years, keeps all my gBBRs lubed up nice.. Recommended product.

+1 on this.

It should be able to work with mapp/pro as the container is the same.

I think I'd much rather inject vanilla extract or* some shit, seriously MAPP smells THAT bad.

Make a video. the making of said shit. then the extracting of vanilla from said shit.

OT: This is genius, I want to pick one up now!

that last pic is straight propane inside.

for a tinkerer mine works well for me. for the average user the AI one is a much better unit. i'll consider getting one someday.

Brian McIlmoyle July 29th, 2013 14:54

is that a flux capacitor?

ThunderCactus July 29th, 2013 15:02

Neat. Make your own green gas lol

Yep

coach July 29th, 2013 16:49

Are the proto oil pumps actually available or is that an old photo?

66BEAR July 29th, 2013 17:22

Apparently they are not available for another couple months according to the rep at the Airsoft Inovations booth at Ultimate Airsoft Convention, but they were selling them only at the show.

coach July 29th, 2013 18:12

Cool. So they have finally been deemed safe for general population usage.

What was the show price?

hav0k July 29th, 2013 21:28

Too bad it doesnt have the lime smell.

OMG! That thing is awesome. I'm trying to figure it out. You put in silicone oil into the quick disconnect between the torch end and the reservoir with the sighting window? Plug it back together and fill the reservoir by cranking on a tank at the propane torch end holding it upside down? How do you get the mixed gas into your mags? Do you have an adaptor which connects to the upper end to connect a valved adaptor to a 3/4" flanged adaptor to adapt to your mag? Adaptor inception!

It's like I took my entire bin of pneumatic fittings and lego'ed together a 2' extension line.

BloodSport July 30th, 2013 10:14

Carl shut up and take my money already why are these not on site!!!!!

m102404 July 30th, 2013 10:29

I've been using one of Carl's prototypes for years...works like a charm.

I usually have one at games and we oil up a bunch of cans at a session.

Next up from AI...scented silicone oil....:)

This contraption of mine came around with me questioning how well silicone oil actually mixes/blends with propane. I was thinking it would be more like oil & water together but it does mix ok and seems to blend in with a little shaking. How I did testing was put oil on top of the ball valve & put a plug over it. Then hook up to propane tank & fill the sight glass resovoir & remove tank. Opening up the ball valve would let the oil run in and I could see what was going on. I dumped & washed out the glass area during my testing. Now when I want to fill oil in gas, I put oil in glass area through ball valve then put tank on inverted and allow propane into glass area. Shake well & stand upright. Most of the time it will all run back into tank. If not, toss tank in freezer for a few min then reconnect and the pressure drop in tank will take it in.

Next trial for me I have some wintergreen oil I'll put in a tank. Then set off a 'nade blank and see how it smells...

cetane July 31st, 2013 06:45

Well I gave it a try this morning. I didn't have a 100% brand new propane tank, but one that was pretty much full. I put 5ml of wintergreen oil in it and gave it a good shake. Filled up an impact 'nade to blank fire and while filling, my madbull adapter was leaking at the fill valve a bit and you could smell the wintergreen along with the propane. After blank fire you could smell the wintergreen in the air with the propane. It does help mask the mercaptan odor some. Not sure if it will mask the acetylene that makes mapp gas stink real bad.

Need to invent some sort of carbon scrubber filter to strip the stink out.

Even now, like 5 min after testing, the wintergreen/propane scent still lightly lingers in the air.

cetane May 24th, 2014 19:46

Just an update on smell. I pulled that same tank out to gas up some (leaky :() mags and there was next to no propane stink. Very minty lol.

Kokanee May 24th, 2014 23:36

Could always pump some skunk scent into your 'nades for "MAXIMUM ROOM CLEARING POWER"
