Gr16-r5

Hey guys, i'm new here but I've been following the forums for a while so I can carry a short conversation about internals and what they do, but I dont know what is better and what isn't, not that much anyhow. Well heres my question..I'm looking forward to buying the gr16-r5 from G&G...i've read a couple reviews...and it seems like this gun has problems in the internals from the very start in some reviews. In other reviews, theres no problems at all except for the hop up. I really need someone to shine some wisdom on this rifle...i know for a fact that this is THE rifle for me...via personal taste and choice...but i need to know if its going to be a hastle from the day i buy the gun? Appreciate all the info =)

ICS dosent provde a M16A4 with M5 RAS front end stock...

Polo609 August 21st, 2005 03:12

Thats the thing, I've always loved the M16 and i wanted an m16 with a scope but i didnt like the idea of placing a scope on top of the carry handle..it just looks weird...so i saw the m15a4 rifle with removable carry handle..but the barrel was that of a a regular m16..which was alright, but with the R5 its full ris and I plan to have a flashlight mounted also. I just would like to know if anyone has experience with this gun, if it is reliable..and wont stop shooting on me.

Thanks nocturnal, I too will be getting my stuff around then because nothing is in stock. Your getting a GR15-R5 also? good choice :D i'll be waiting to hear about it! I emailed airsoftGI...i saw their promotion..G&G GR15-R5 with 8.4v 1700mah battery, 3500 bb's and charger for 549 US. They said all their guns were the second versions...so they must be improved. As for the other posts, the m16a3 doesnt come with ris barrel. Yes the carry handle is removable!

you can't order from airsoftGI, when the gun gets to the customs they will sieze it, only order within canada

Magoo August 21st, 2005 13:44

If you want to play indoors a G&G will shoot to fast for most clubs. You will have to get a velocity reducer if you want to play indoors. Just something to think about.

Yes i am getting one. i've built one last year when i first started (had a DTP body too!). but i sold it *doh*

anyway, I missed it a lot so I figure I'd buy the G&G GR16-R5 because it's way cheaper than building from scratch.

I will also be getting a G&G GR16-R4 (w/ready-mag system) to feed my hunger for Armalites.

Although, I would like to try the ICS M4 with the split gearbox design =p

Personally, I would not use an M16 for indoors. It is just too long for CQB!
Thats why I have an AEG for field and one for CQB.

Polo609 August 21st, 2005 15:38

I will be using it for outdoors only. So if airsoftGI products will get seized...then what about RedWolf Airsoft..do their products get seized too?? The GR15-R5 is 815 dollars canadian..where as if I get it from the states it will come out to 665 canadian.

R.A.T.M._JLD August 21st, 2005 15:51

It well get seized ANY where if you buy out of Canada!

(Edit)
If you ain't willing to spend the money then airsoft may to be for you.

yep.. its sad but true. many people ask "why!.. why!.." and some simply answer, "it will get seized but feel free to try if you like. it is not our money anyway."

many of us order from different canadian retailers or even just off the Buy and Sell forums.

it is your call dude :salute:

Polo609 August 21st, 2005 22:18

Gosh, good thing you guys told me, or else I would have done something stupid like that. Good call ! Well now that my hopes arent going much higher...i guess for 815 dollars I can have something equivalent or better...for a lower price im sure. I guess im gonna have to go with full metal M4A1...any suggestions between ICS and CA?

concept_8 August 21st, 2005 22:27

I'd say just be patient and get the gun you realy want.
It might take you a while to save up but you obviously have a ton of reading to do anyways.
There's not realy any sense in gettting something when you realy want something else because in the end you'll probably just end up wanting to get the gun you realy wanted in the first place.

Either way good luck with your choice.

As for ICS and CA it's a pretty tough call they both have thier up side and down.
I guess I'd probably go with the ICS for the split box design though.

Polo609 August 22nd, 2005 00:52

Thanks guys youve helped me infinatly! HOOAH
Marc

Nocturnal August 22nd, 2005 02:15

I'd stick with the gun you'd really want =)
why? because you will always wonder if it was worth the extra money it costs.

now to answer your question about the M4A1's

ICS, G&P, G&G, CA, STTI... etc

all the manufactures have good and bad points. and every gun usually has different problems. in most cases its a hit or miss kinda thing.. some people get AEGs that need everything fixed here and there.. others have minor fixes.. others don't need any fixing.

theres no way to insure you get an awesome out of the box AEG unless you get Tokyo Marui? but then you will be stuck with an ABS plastic body. which in fact isnt bad. why? because its cheaper to replace an ABS body than it is a metal body.
it is only airsoft right?

anyway you are entitled to what you think is right for you.
read as much as you can about any of the possible AEGs you want to buy and narrow it down to the one that you like best or which you think you will get more for your money.

Polo609 August 22nd, 2005 02:32

Yea you're right nocturnal..I think I will save my money up and buy the R5...it will be my first airsoft gun...I don't wanna go wrong and have to upgrade everything you know..this gun is very pretty and very solid...no rush you guys are right. I will slowly save up for this gun hehe..hey let me know when you get yours :D!

Polo609 August 22nd, 2005 11:46

btw how do i view stuff in the buy or sell forum..theres nothing there :( do i have to get verified first?

Nocturnal August 22nd, 2005 12:48

yes you will need to see a local representative from this list:
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=12407

how tall are you? just wondering. im 5'6 and the M16 is a fairly long gun to haul around, especially fullmetal ones. I just want to make sure you have fun with your first AEG.

im short, but i've played with a very similar Full metal M16A4 replica that i built when I first started. it was my first AEG and i loved it.. even after i sold it *tear*...

Here are the list of parts i used on the old one i had:

Polo609 August 22nd, 2005 17:07

Man that list is pimmmmp....musta been sweet for sure. Im about 5'9 and built..so i think i can handle some weight :P I guess im gonna have to meet up with a representative then...will do that asap. Thanks for your help man..youve been great!

Nocturnal August 22nd, 2005 19:06

np... dude.. with your size.. you will love it.
enjoy the wonderful world of airsoft =)

damage August 24th, 2005 01:23

make sure the G&G aeg you are getting is the second batch.

R.A.T.M._JLD August 24th, 2005 01:38

I was thinking of getting ICS for the metal body but then I was thinking I should go with a TM caz I went be able to upgrade right a way so I could alwas just save up and upgrade to a metal body later. Was think of getting the Wilson Combat Aluminum Die Casting (OD) 4th from the bottom. Well thats if the dust cover, the T handel, and so on works. Well just have to see once it comes out.

Polo609 August 24th, 2005 12:59

hey guys, well I've been thinking really hard on either the M15A4 rifle or the GR16-R5. Since they are almost the same..and will be upgraded the same, I did a small comparision to see which one would have the most bang for the buck :

CA M15A4 Rifle--->when (R5)= the gr16-r5 already comes with it

Upgrades
Internals:

Systema Spring Guide with Bearing VER II (20$)
Guarder Steel Cylinder Head for Ver.2 Gearbox (30$)
Systema Silicon Piston Head with Bearing for All (25$) (R5)
Guarder Air Seal Nozzle for M16a2(20$) (R5)
Systema N-B Cylinder Type-0 for M16A1 Series (20$)
Systema BS 6.04mm Barrel for m16a2(20$) (R5)
Systema Aluminium Piston for Gearbox Ver 2 (30$) (R5)
Bushing(ball bearing) (R5=7mm)

Gears:

-Prometheus EG Hard Gear for MS100-110 (100$) (R5?)

Spring:

-Prometheus Non-Linear Spring MS110 (25$) (R5)

External:

-Aimpoint 2x (200$)
-SureFire Flashlite (50$)

Total:
Upgrades-500$
Gun-600$

=1100$

G&G GR16-R5

-One Piece Metal Hop Up Unit
-6.04mm precision inner barrel
-7mm oil less steel bushings
-High quality wiring set
-Reinforced tappet plate
-Poly material spring guide with bearing
-Reinforced Anti reversal latch
-Original Steel Gears

Upgrades:

-Systema N-B Cylinder Type-0 for M16A1 Series (20$)
-Systema Spring Guide with Bearing VER II (20$)
-Prometheus Non-Linear Spring MS110 (25$)

Spring:

-Prometheus Non-Linear Spring MS110 (25$)

External:

-Aimpoint 2x (200$)
-SureFire Flashlite (50$)

Total:
Upgrades-340$
Gun-815$

= 1155$
so basically for 55 dollars more(not really an exact price) i get the rifle i want and less stuff to upgrade. And yes I will make sure that its the second batch made from G&G!

Nocturnal August 24th, 2005 13:12

yepyep

R.A.T.M._JLD September 18th, 2005 19:35

Ok I was looking for some info on ICS M4A1 R.I.S. and on RedWolf found that it says that the ICS M4A1 R.I.S. and ICS M4 C-15 Fixed Stock said "This product only fits for ICS magazines." (At the bottum.) I was woundering if this was true?
