Les Baer 1911, by Socom Gear

Quote:

Newly released licensed Les Baer 1911 Ultimate Recon airsoft pistol at SOCOM Gear and it comes in pistol grip options for you to select from. Les Baer Custom is specialized in semi-custom 1911 type pistols and they even do AR-15 type rifles. What's well known about Les Baer pistols is that they come with a guarantee of at least 3" accuracy at 50 yards. But I guess you won't be able to expect this guarantee with the airsoft version.

"Fully licensed Baer Ultimate Recon w/ one mag and one extra 1911 golfball dimple grip OR streamline dimple grip.

Features:

Accurate Replica of Baer 1911 Ultimate Recon 5in
Green Gas or CO2 Powered
Compatible with KJW CO2 magazine (Optional CO2 power).
25+1 Rds BB Capacity"

I think it's nice to see Socom Gear making efforts to get liscensed pistols like this, the DS 1911, the novak neXt ot the gemtech oasis.

Its a nice copy, but not identical to the original. The original is a lighter gray, and features wood grips, and comes with a TLR-2.

All the socom gear/WE replicas are off in some little aspect.

Still nice to look at,not sure if I would use it to game with!

"Compatible with KJW CO2 magazine (Optional CO2 power)."

Woah! That's new! I didn't spot this earlier.

Ya but when you look at a picture of the real one compared to the Socom Gear one its a pretty noticable color difference. Doesnt bother me cause i like the darker color on the Socom Gear one, but for "1911 Purists" they will notice the difference.

One of the reasons I actually posted this...

and Les Baer 1911s are sexy. Although I'm no so keen of the "close but no cigar" replicating.

TaroBear October 9th, 2011 14:37

Like the grips.

Well it's obviously going to be a rebranded KJW then, not a rebranded WE.
EDIT: I can actually see the "Made in Taiwain. KJWORKS" on the frame in the picture.

Whether its based on WE or KJW its just a simple badge engineering job. The fact that one real steel 1911 is not that dissimilar to another means that its all the more important to get the little detail right. Guns like Novak Next have their special feature, like the elimination of grip safety, beveled slide and rackable slide without disengaging the thumb safety is what made it unique. Slapping the name on a regular WE/KJW 1911 is doing a disservice to the real thing...

I didn't know the novak was so different, thanks for pointing that out!

I did check out what it was about after i replied to your post, also went on to read why people would prefer a grip safety-less 1911, it's a nice take on the gun. Fore sure I'd disable/mod it were I to build/own an airsoft one.

Orange tip problem solved

First, I have to appologize to bring this tread back from the graves but I wanted to add to it in case someone was hesitating on purchasing this pistol because of the orange tip...

In regards to the orange tip, it is painted on, Socom Gear extended the outer barrel and painted it orange on top of it... now the best way is to cut were the line "joint" where the orange meets the silver part...then filed it flush to a 90 degree and sand it smooth...after finishing...use some masking tape and tape the edge and outer barrel surface and spray some chrome paint inside the outer barrel cavity to cover the rest of the orange paint that was left over...voila !!! orange tip problem solved and it looks like it suppose to...

Next project... replace with a stainless steel Barrel Bushing, replace that inner barrel with a Prometheus 6.03mm barrel "with modification", and get some nice VZ grips along with some nice TORX screws...

thpethalK November 11th, 2012 12:06

Bit of a necro here, but figured it would be better to keep all info in the same thread. Has any one else had an issue with their mag "sticking" with the slide locked back? I can get smooth mag release with the slide in battery, however once locked back, I get no movement on the mag unless I pull it out by the base plate.

Thenooblord November 11th, 2012 12:38

thats... very strange... can you see anything obviously interferei8ng with the removal inside the open chamber, or is it just friction from the frame somehow

thpethalK November 11th, 2012 14:23

Seems like friction, I can feel some increased friction if I lock the slide back and slowly insert the mag.

Thenooblord November 11th, 2012 14:44

is it only when the slide is back? or does it do it when only the hammer is cocked as well

redneck12 November 11th, 2012 15:47

I was having mag release and insertion problems with my Les Baer to. It was hardest with the slide locked back, I loosened the trigger screw just a bit and the problem has gone away. I also polished the mags with rubbing compound to make them slick, now they drop free no problem.

SuperHog November 11th, 2012 16:59

I am going to be picking up one of these in a weeks time. The first thing is a new barrel.

Is there any weak areas that needs upgrading now before it breaks?

Styrak November 11th, 2012 17:03

Not really. KJW's are pretty decent.

SuperHog November 11th, 2012 17:45

Thanks. I guess the the money I saved can go to extra mags.

I was going to try the polishing but I intend to get black mags and would prefer to keep them black. I'll give the trigger screw a shot and see if it works.
