What does your GF, partner, wife or husband say about your hobby?
 

The wife supports it as long as the little ones do not see or play with it. I'm sort of rediscovering airsoft again after a long sabbatical. The variety is so much more today and knowledge shared far greater. The price however, well, i think its about the same high price...but tha's debatable.

If you're "re-discovering" airsoft and you think the prices are high, you have an AWFUL memory.

Did you have to take a break from it because all your buddies got tired of your endless questions........

My wife puts up with it...my buddies wives put up with it...few if any of them "like" it.

But it's either this or some other stupid thing we'd get into...and there's very little nudity and strippers involved with Airsoft (but then again...we're probably doing it wrong).

Heck my wife plays too.

She's just checking on you....making sure you don't divert off to the rippers...

My wife plays with me...Occasionally. She only come with me when I go ballroom dancing with her.

My gf plays with me. No complaints from her since I basically bought everything for her to play.

eh the wife doesnt mind so much, as long as i dont spend too much in a short period of time, and keep all gear safely out of reach of our little one

I don't have any of the above. Just a wallet that complains occasionally.

I think I may have misinterpreted the rules of the game at one point in time because there is always nudity, strippers and even occasional dance parties when I play airsoft.

I dont see how its debatable. $1000CAD for a TM M4 6 years ago versus $500 for a TM M4 now. Its not debatable, its fact. Its like saying the existence of the sun is debatable, its not because we all know its there. Just like we all know that airsoft prices have gotten significantly better over the recent years. If you wish to debate we can debate the existence of big foot.

Airoft is the cheapest hobby I have right now. It's the least of my gf's problems. lol

She doesn't like the money I'm spending but agrees it's still the best value for money sport/exercise you can do today. I think she just likes to get me out of the house...hmmmm

On the "discussion" on price of airsoft, that's a no brainier. Prices are half of what they where and the quality and selection is ten fold. Anyone claiming otherwise either had an aneurysm at some point in the last 10 years or is remembering the "good old days" with rose coloured glasses.

Girl friend likes that I play airsoft. She doesn't play, bit she likes to plink with me. She knows it's expensive, but I dont tell her everything price I pay lol

My wife hates the idea of me picking up this hobby. She said instead of spanding my money on airsoft I could of bought her a bigger valentines gift.

my GF plays every now and then. She give me that "oh no you didn't" look everytime i buy something but once she actually holds it she doesn't mind anymore. My daught loves the guns for some reason though >.> I have to lock them up in the basement just in case because of that.

Yea, you might want to have a talk about mutual respect. Because regardless of how nice a gift you might have bought her, she considers your potential enjoyment a waste that could have been better spend on her avarice.

and the sad part is that it's not just my airsoft guns it everything.

My wife is okay with it, minus the spending of money. However when ever i tell her im going to play she always pulls out the "oh but i want to spend quality time with you" card. Annoys the hell out of me because she knows i play every sunday.

My Fiancee thinks it's bad ass. She wants to get into it and she's even a member here :D I'm actually worried that she might kick my ass at it cause she dominates in Lazer tag. And Halo. I've been teaching her about rifles and she loves it. She's an American though so every so often I get the urge to move down there and buy to my heart's content but the economy is too good here to risk it :(

My GF is all for it. I think she secretly thinks I'm a weirdo, but she keeps it to herself. So that's nice of her. And she doesn't complain too much when I spend an entire months salery on airsoft in one go.

my girl friend wishes i played more so that the guns would seem like a better investment, i don't spend much more than i can afford, so she just doesnt bother me about it.

My wife hates airsoft. Shes happy that I have a hobby that I enjoy but she hates the money I've spent on it in the last few years.(since when did it matter if your airsoft kit was worth more than anything else you own.....combined).

My old lady thinks I'm nuts spending so much on toy guns. Then I bought a PTW and well, she wasn't too happy. LOL.

She also doesn't understand the whole wearing a specific kit thing, she thinks me and my buddies are a bunch of nerds!

Is airsoft socially acceptable?

I've been wondering about this for a while now (ok, just a few weeks since I only learned about Airsoft at Christmas). Nobody blinks an eye if you tell them that you enjoy playing "Call of Duty" or "Halo" or "Quake". Yet, when you tell someone that you are going to be dressing up as a soldier and running around shooting each other, they often get this slightly quisical look on their face and you just know they are thinking "what the f@cking nutjob talking about!!!"

I had a talk with one of my work collegues about socially acceptable hobbies. He is part of an international organization that promotes play fighting (just like our airsoft), but in a medivial setting/period. So, they dress up in medival period costumes (i.e. suit of armor, chain mail, etc) and fight with swords (made from bamboo). Yet, I think their activity is much more socially acceptable as they've actually put on displays (involving play fighting) at our bi-annual town fair.

So, maybe in 200 years, when all fighting is done by computers and remote controlled drones, airsoft may become socially acceptable - as a way to keep history alive.

P.S. - just to get back on topic. My wife doesn't seem to mind as she is used to me going off the deep end when I start something new. She also grew up on a farm with real guns. So, she really sees my airsoft gun as a toy.

My girlfriend actually likes to kiss and............. a soldier, ok, I'm gonna join the reserve soon so I'm not a real soldier yet, but my airsoft gear looks like a soldier's for her !

Seriously, airsoft is a hobby, like any other, I'm the first to explain what airsoft is and why it's not a military fanatic hobby !
Heck, I made my last english class presentation about airsoft, the class really liked hearing about my hobby !!!

I'm pretty sure she would have minded the possible "alone" time the drink cart girls on the course more than me getting up at Oh dark thirty to shoot at other guys.

My gf was part of such group, so she doesnt mind airsoft too much. Plus I always mention physical exercise, and A LOT more fun than gym. Money? As long as I spend more on her then airsoft she is ok... ...could have bought PTW for price of some diamond earings :(

I ditched my ex, quit airsoft and spend all my disposable income on astronomy and traveling now.

I feel a little special after reading most of these haha.
My GF prefers me to go out and play Airsoft, she finds it a lot better then just playing CoD or MoH or any of that crap.
Just as long as I do what ever with her when she asks.
And hell, I came home one day from work to find her staring at my M4 only to tell me "You've got a crack in that crappy ABS body"
She also knows almost every external part of my gun haha. I pull any piece out and she can name what it is.
I feel so lucky =P

Gf tolerates it and thinks its kinda cool. Shes not a big fan at all about guns or the Army...which explains she why she hates it every time I mention joining the CF.

My wife comes out with me and plays. She loves it when I purchase new gear for her. I got lucky on this as many wives hate the sport. Happy happy, Joy joy!!!

The missus don't mind. She know's that I'm a bit of a gear whore but she puts up with it... As long as I don't shoot her in the ass with a springer again LoL. I'm thinking about getting her a Tornado grenade for valentines. Suprise!!!

My limit is 2 games per month, but every time I planning to go for event, I can hear same song " You not spending enough time with me and kids ". It is kind of hit in my family. But as long, as I have that song on million other reasons, I don't care too much.

Girlfriend was taking pictures last year... Now she want's to play, she buys her own gear and she bought her own gun so yay! ;)

I'm not allowed to buy Cansoft, ABS mags or the like. She said don't buy cheap guns and gear so you only have to replace it once in a blue moon. I like the way she thinks.

My fiance is cool with it,she is even gonna play a game with me on our honeymoon next august at POWairsoft in Scotland.
But i still get that look everyime i buy something new:D

Mine tolerates it, lol she knows I love it though and has no problems with me going to a game or picking up an item here or there..

Can't get her into it enough to learn the parts though, I'm not sure she knew the difference between my AK and my M4..

Well this is an unexpected update... she asked me to register her to the next service match I attend.... and she'll be shoot her m14 and S&W 357 mag revolver for the match... I feel lame with my ar and 9mm..... i'll have to look into that....

Mine says i'm a nerd...for whatever reason, and i'm trying to convince her to come out but she thinks its gonna hurt worse than paintball and that paintball is somehow superior.

Same here, I am only allowed to buy metal bodies, must buy quality parts. It is acceptable to break something by hitting Azathoth with it, unless it was cheap, then I gotta figure out some way to fund the replacement.

She even pushes me to play games; "You've spent -that- much money on guns and gear, you -will- play games, is there a game this weekend? Have you signed up already?"

My wife introduced me to the guy that got me into paintball, with whom I then segued into airsoft. She encourages the exercise of a game a week, and encourages the socialization aspect. But she doesn't like guns, doesn't want to see them around the house, and doesn't like seeing my game pictures. She also complains about the occasional welt from a hit, even though I try to reason I'd get hurt far worse in a sport like hockey. And I never, ever mention how much I spend, or let her see more than one pistol and one rifle at a time. She doesn't seem to notice details like an M4 or Masada turning into an RPK or an M14. Even when my screensaver shows a collection picture taken in our living room with 7 longs and 2 pistols.

So, you're basically saying she's in denial?

Mine loves it.

Holds the pistol grip, and pulls the trigger for me and everything.

I make no effort to educate her further (aside from once explaining how a SERPA holster works after we saw one on a TV show).

The ex didn't mind at first and ended up hating it... Both the money spent as well as the time and attention but everything works out for the best...

I think the my new gf wants to try it and would be open to it but is too intimidated, which gives me an idea... we golf together and snowboard together and it seems that there are alot of other guys in the same boat (now ive been drinking a bit and just came off a 16hr shift) but why don't we all invite our girls to join us for a game? Maybe we could buy ourselves a bit of slack and give them a better understanding of what we do? And maybe an excuse to buy more stuff!$ (itd also make an awesome valentines day gift for both!!)

I'm sure enough of us have enough guns and gear to equip a small army...jk but the girls would feel less intimidated and open to playing with a group of other girls and noobs and hey itd probably be fun!

I met a woman at a wedding, she was from Montreal, we had a bit of a fling one visit there, one here. She saw me cocking my new silver M9 when she came out of the shower (I was in another room) It led to a big fight that ended the fling.

My GF doesn't mind it, and even supports it as long as I don't spend excessive amounts of money at once. Purchasing one "new" rifle per year is ok with her.

She buys be guns and gear on special occasions.

Ya, i had to introduce the hobby very slowly, piece by piece, and she doesn't want to see pics, guns, gear or anything let alone mention the price of the gear and guns.
But she likes it more that my other hobby which is having fun with subaru's.

My wife is pretty supportive and knows it's just something that I do. Sometimes she thinks that I could better spend my Saturday with someone else (Her) though. I introduced her to target shooting with a bolt action and now she's a better shot than me!

Will not invite her to a game though, it''s my man/buddy time and that will never change.

My girlfriend Palmela Handerson loves airsoft she even plays with me. but srsly, my ex gf's loved it they thought it was pretty cool. Even cooler when they dress up in your full gear ;)

Well The GF really doesn't mind as long as rent, car and groceries are paid for....Well my habit for wanting to acquire a new gun every week seems to spark the occasional argument but we manage to work it out. I have however got her into the hobby and purchused some gear and guns for her to use, so that has made it easier :D.

Same here... accept mine does not complain... I just don't like spending money >_>
