Hmm, I'm still waiting to receive my A&K SVD, I have no hands-on experience with it yet; but I've been working in precision sheet metal/machining for 15yrs now.
I'd think a stripped screw would have the opposite effect (not hold the barrel in). There is two screws holding the outer barrel assembly in place, one on each side; maybe you missed the second screw...?
Stripped threads can be drilled & re-tapped to a slightly larger size; for instance, a stripped M3X0.5 tapped hole could be drilled through to 3mm and tapped for a M3.5X0.6 screw. Means you need a different screw, but it beats having a buggered gun. ;)
Or, if you must keep the original thread size, a machine shop could install a heli-coil.

Ya I think that we are going to have to face it, those $90.00 knock off SVD scopes are complete shit! The windage and elevation functions do not work on the damn things.
Lets hope others read this info before they go waste their money like we all did.

Gordo

Thanks for the heads-up; y'all saved me from wastin' $100.
I don't want to go with a weaver mount & standard scope (tryin' to keep the "Russian Army issue" look), but I've heard the 26mm objective lens diameter is too small for most people's preferences. There is such thing as a 42mm P0SP scope, but was that ever issued? Or was it intended for sport/hunting SVDs? Anyone know?

To be honest, i dont have any metal machining experience at all beside fixing my own bike :D like the head? the place where i put the allen key. the key wont grip so i cant loosen the screw. sorry for the confusion. but i can tell you this gun is pretty amazing. may be its my bad luck with the screw because kylem had no problem with his and he have 2 videos on his A&K svd.

Aha, I see. Are you sure it's the screw head and not the allen key itself? I've rounded off a lot of them over the years. Also possible you've got the wrong key size (5/64" is just slightly smaller than 2mm...)
If it's the screw, you might be able to jam a SAE-sized allen key on there. (i.e. if your key is 2mm (0.0787") and spinning freely in the screw head, try a 3/32" (0.0937") allen key). Failing that, I've had good luck mashing slightly oversized Torx bits onto damaged allen-head (and Robertson) screws. You just have to try a few sizes to find one that'll grip.

Im sure its not the allen key because theres two screw that holds the barrel. i removed on without any trouble; it was smooth. this one is not completely rounded off but it wont grip...
This is really irrevelant but what kind of oil do u guys use? i heard the silicon oil makes it sticky so pulling it back with the stock string would be really hard...
what kidnd of oil do u guys use on your svd?? thanks
